It's Possible

As a music teacher, I have noticed one major difference between people who are "successful" at learning the fiddle/violin and those who are not:
Speech. It’s the one indicator that shows me how far someone can go. How someone speaks about themselves and their abilities is always reflected in their results.
Once students begin to vocalize statements such as "This isn't for me – I'm not musical," "The only music I play is on the radio," "I should have started when I was younger," "This is impossible," or "I'll never be able to _____," I know that they’ve picked up on one of the 60-80K thoughts we have per day and turned it into a tangible belief. When said out loud, these thoughts become the blocks and barricades that prevent us from progressing.
We all have beliefs that work against us. Once we hear ourselves speaking negatively about ourselves or the results we actually want in the world, we might feel hopeless about changing them.
BUT....in my experience, it's easier than you think!
This is what I do when I find myself feeling blocked and saying, "It's too hard. I can't. There's no way." (As a business owner, I deal with these types of thoughts almost every day.):
Become Aware: Shining awareness on these shadowy thoughts brings them to light and de-energizes them. Simply being aware of the negative thought helps reduce its power. You can make light of it by saying, "Oh, there it is again!" or "There's that old, dusty thought coming up again." Just notice every time it comes up without speaking it as though it were true.
Use "It's Possible": Opening up to possibility sounds like this:
"It’s possible that if I keep at this, I might improve."
"It’s possible that I am musically talented in a way I haven’t discovered yet."
"It’s possible that something will click if I keep trying."
"It’s possible that I could perform a bluegrass solo someday."
You can apply this mindset to anything in life—dreams you have, goals you want to accomplish, or experiences you'd like to explore.
This is your one precious life. What would you like to be possible for you?
